I love hiking. But unless you really know me, you probably
would have never guessed that.
For starters, I’m a writer, which means hours upon hours at
my desk. If you look at my Facebook page, where I spend the majority of my time
(joking, not joking), you’ll see me talk about my family, our current remodel,
and writing. Maybe once a year I’ll post a series of pictures from a hike.
None of that would cause a person to think, “Jennifer sure
loves hiking”.
But the truth is I do love, when I do it … which isn’t
often.
So when the yearly clock rolled around to reveal 2016, I did
what millions of people do every year on New Year’s Eve and made a resolution. I
resolved to find my love for hiking again, but doing it instead of just
thinking about it.
I’ve grown accustomed to a stagnate lifestyle. Y’all, it’s
darn easy to sit in the recliner all day. I love writing, so much … so I don’t
think twice about sitting all day writing. It’s my happy place, but do you know
where else is my happy place? Nature.
So this year I’m doing it. I’m going to hike … a lot. I’m
getting my hiney off the recliner and putting the miles on my sneakers. Hopefully,
my daughter and husband will also gain the love, as we travel to different
places and take in the scenery. It is embarrassing how much of our area we
haven’t seen, having lived her for 7.5 years.
This blog is document and highlight my year of returning to
my love and replenishing my hiking heart.
In 2014 I hiked 8,164 feet to the top of Heart Mountain in Wyoming,
and I've been milking it ever since.
